ANZAC Day

April17

Anzac Day is held each year on April 25th. It is a day when people in Australia, New Zealand, and Turkey may remember those who died in wars, especially on the Gallipoli Peninsula during World War 1.

Although Anzac Day is thought of as mainly an Australian and New Zealand national day, people from many other nations were also involved in the fighting on the Gallipoli Peninsular in Turkey during 1915.

What happens on ANZAC Day?

Why do you think April 25th was chosen as the day on which to remember the Anzacs?

Why do you think that Anzac Day is such an important day in Australia and New Zealand?

The word ANZAC is an acronym. Each letter is the beginning of another word. What do these letters
A__________ N__________ Z___________ A_________ C__________ stand for?

    Hi 3/4D,
to answer your first question I believe that we have a public holiday, a minutes silence and there are always dawn services to remember the troops. For the second question the 25th of April was chosen because that’s the day the arrived at Gallipoli. The reason ANZAC day is so important to Australia and New Zealand is that so many lives were lost so we remember those who died. 🙁 🙁 🙁 For the last question ANZAC stands for Australia New Zealand Army Corp.
    Bye,
    Patrick 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hi 3/4D, ANZAC day is a day to remember the soldiers that fought and lost their lives in WW1, we have a minute silence, and we eat ANZAC biscuits. Every year we have a dawn service at the shrine followed by a parade. The word ANZAC stands for – Australia and Zealand Army Corps. The 25th April was chosen to remember this day as it was when the ANZACS landed on the shores of Galipoli. We have a public holiday every year on this day to remember those who died on this day. I am very fortunate to celebrate my Birthday on this special day.

    Hi 3/4D
On ANZAC day we remember the soliders that fought in the war for our country and the soiders that died in the war. The 25th of April is chosen because it is when the soliders landed at Gallipoli. ANZAC day is so important to Australia and New zealand because it marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australia and New zealand forces during the first world war. The word ANZAC means Australian New Zealand Army Corps. My Great pop was in First world war . Pop fought in the war and my Nana who was in the Army stayed in Australia and sent food to the soliders and other stuff, My pop was caught by a solider on the other side and he was a prisoner of war and when he came back he was very skinny and very sick because they did not feed the prisoners much food. 🙁

    Hi 3/4D.

25th April was chosen as the day to remember the ANZAC’s because this is when the soldiers landed in Gallipoli to fight with the Turks during World War 1. ANZAC day is such an important day because it is when we remember all those soldiers that served and those that died, not just in the first world war and all the wars after that, in order to protect our country. To remember, we march at dawn services and wear a red poppy. ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. We also have a national holiday on this day.

It’s sad for the families that had to hear the bad news about if there son/daughter…. had died. But those who had died in wars maybe are so proud of them selfs, because they made their families and other families to stay safe!! That’s why Anzac day is very important!! By Alessandro

    Hi,
ANZAC day is so important to Australia and New Zealand because so many troops died when they landed at ANZAC cove. The date is the 25th of April because it was then when they landed in Gallipoli.
ANZAC stands for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps.
This is what happened on ANZAC day; troops landed at ANZAC cove, they got shot by Turkish troops by a variety of guns, more Australian troops died than the Turkish ones.
